Dear Tiffany,

themsaturdayfeels, amiright?

Some of this needs to be unpacked with some quiet, some reflection, some intentional mindfulness. Most of this will take time.

Some of these feelings are heavy.

Feelings about history, about family, about place and displacement, about violence, about trauma, about intergenerational pain, about settling, being settler, being settled, being unsettled.

This is a love letter, and I think that some of the best love letters are, at their core, about the act of generous and intentional witnessing – seeing the one that we love, offering a loving mirror to the beloved.

But I don’t know how to see myself within these feels, and so I will offer some love for the confusion and the misty purple of today.

I love that you are wide open to the complexity and intensity of your thoughts and emotions. I love that you have learned how to sometimes pause when the feels come flooding in, to let them be tangled and overwhelming, to let the answers come slowly (if at all), rather than grasping for an easy answer that would resolve the discomfort.

You’re not always great at it, but you’re always aware that it’s the more wholehearted path, and I appreciate that.

Anyway, good luck sorting all this mess out!

Love,

Me
